Consumables are where UK shops quietly make their money, and where multi-buys actually exist — just not as one tidy “bike bundle”. Cassette, tyres and tubes are three different compatibility puzzles. Get any of them wrong and the discount is a return you cannot make (opened tubes) or a cassette that will not go on the freehub.

Match the SRAM body
11-speed vs 12-speed is not a suggestion. An 11-speed chain and shifter will not run a 12-speed cassette. If the bike is 105 R7000 (11-speed) you want CS-HG700 / R7000-class 11-speed, not CS-R7100.
Hyperglide+ is not Micro Spline. Road 12-speed 105/Ultegra cassettes will not mount on a Micro Spline MTB hub. The reverse is also true. Read the freehub, then the listing title.
Named UK value picks:
Road 12-speed: Shimano 105 CS-R7100 (11-34 is the UK sportive default). Ultegra CS-R8100 when the 105 is out of stock and the Ultegra is on a similar sale.
Road 11-speed: CS-HG700 11-34 — still the cheap wide-range spare for older 105/Ultegra.
MTB 12-speed: Deore / SLX Micro Spline. Do not buy a “12-speed” SRAM NX PG cassette unless the hub is PG, not XD.
Check cassette deals for live 105 and Ultegra pricing. Pair a new cassette with a new chain; a stretched chain on fresh sprockets skips under load and ruins the sale.
Tyre multi-buys (and the car-tyre trap)
UK bike shops rarely throw tubes in with two tyres. You combine a tyre promo at one merchant with a tube mix-and-match at another. Ignore Halfords-style “buy two premium tyres” headlines unless the small print says bicycle — many are Autocentre car-fitting deals.
Formats you will actually see: percentage off two folding tyres; pre-bundled pairs; end-of-line pairs. Wire-bead vs folding is not always included in the same promo.
Named tyres worth doubling up:
Continental GP5000 / GP5000 S TR — the performance clincher/TLR everyone compares. Buy two when the pair price undercuts two singles; see the value ranking.
Continental GatorSkin — the UK winter/training default: Duraskin, PolyX, not fast, rarely punctures.
GP 4-Season — the wet-weather step up from GatorSkin if you still want a bit of race feel.
Vittoria Rubino — the cheap training alternative when Conti is not on sale.

Tube multi-buys
Tubes are the category that does mix-and-match. Decathlon’s “2 for £x” on 700×23–32 Presta is the textbook example: different sizes in the eligible range still trigger the price. Evans and others run brand-level 2-for deals on the product tile.
Before you add two to the basket:
ETRTO on the tyre sidewall (e.g. 25-622).
Presta vs Schrader — the rim hole, not the tyre.
Width range on the box covers your tyre.
Valve length for deep rims (60–80 mm, not a 40 mm stem).
Opened inner tubes are generally non-returnable. Get the size right. Inner tube deals surface single-unit sales that sometimes beat a nominal bundle.

Building the cheapest basket
Road commuter (700×25–28, Presta): two GatorSkin or GP 4-Season on a buy-two, plus two mix-and-match tubes. Sportive / club: two GP5000 (or S TR) when the pair is discounted, plus a spare 105 cassette if yours is shark-finned. MTB: individual tyre sales beat mythical multi-buys; two Continental or Schwalbe tubes at sale price often undercuts a “bundle”.
Delivery thresholds (£30–£50) are the tie-break. A slightly dearer tyre at a shop that ships free with your tubes can still win.
FAQ
Do tyre multi-buys include tubeless tyres? Tube deals are for inner tubes. Tubeless needs sealant. Keep one folded tube as a backup.
Must mix-and-match tubes be the same size? Not always. Decathlon-style 2-for deals often allow different eligible sizes. Pack deals usually do not.
Is Presta interchangeable with Schrader? No. Match the rim hole. A Presta tube can sit in a Schrader rim with a reducer; the reverse needs a drilled hole.
Can I return opened inner tubes? Generally no once the seal is broken. Check ETRTO and valve before you open the box.
