37%offWhat you get for your money shifts a tier at Black Friday. A discounted bike can land you one groupset or frame material higher than the same budget buys in spring.
Gravel bikes make a good winter road bike too: wider tyres, mudguard mounts and a more relaxed position. Discounts follow the same model-year pattern as road bikes.

A big saving on the wrong bike is still the wrong bike. Run through these before you pay.
Size labels vary between brands. Compare the stack and reach figures with your current bike rather than trusting S, M or 54cm on its own.
Check the full spec, not just the rear mech. Brands sometimes pair a 105 derailleur with a cheaper chainset, brakes or cassette.
Stock wheels are often where cost is saved. Heavy wheels are fine to start with, and an upgrade later makes a bigger difference than almost anything else.
Room for 32mm or wider tyres makes a bike far more comfortable on UK roads and more useful through winter. Look for mudguard mounts too.
Hydraulic discs stop better in the wet and need less hand strength than mechanical discs or rim brakes. Worth paying a little more for.
Bikes bought online usually arrive part built. Check the returns window, whether a ridden bike can go back, and who covers the cost of collection.
Endurance bikes have a taller front end and a shorter reach, so you sit more upright. They usually take wider tyres and mudguards. For most UK riders doing sportives, club runs and winter miles, this is the better buy. Think Trek Domane or Specialized Roubaix.
Race bikes are lower and longer, with sharper handling and a stiffer feel. Great if you race or you are already flexible and comfortable in an aggressive position. The Specialized Tarmac is the classic example.
A big saving on a race bike is tempting, but don’t let it pull you onto a bike that hurts your back after two hours. Our best endurance road bikes guide covers the comfortable end in detail.

The most common Black Friday road bike mistake is buying the size that happens to be discounted rather than the size that fits. The popular middle sizes sell out first, so the bikes still showing big savings late in the sale are often the very small and very large frames.
Work out your size now, while there is no pressure. Use your height and inside leg as a starting point, then compare stack and reach with a bike you already ride comfortably. Our road bike frame size guide walks you through it.
If you are between sizes, the smaller frame is usually easier to adjust with a longer stem or a higher saddle than a big frame is to shrink.
Retailers have not announced 2026 Black Friday road bike offers yet (checked 6 October). Last year gives a good idea of what to expect. These are past prices, not current offers:
The pattern is the one to remember. The biggest savings in pounds were on carbon mid-range and upper mid-range bikes, outgoing model years, and they ran into early December. Off-road bikes follow a similar pattern: see Black Friday mountain bike deals.
Road bike pricing follows the model year. New bikes arrive from late summer into autumn, so by November retailers want the outgoing stock gone before the new season. That is why Black Friday is one of the best times of year to buy a road bike, alongside the end-of-season sales in late summer and the January clearance.
The catch is choice. The deeper into the season you go, the more likely your size has gone. Black Friday is a good balance of decent discounts and decent stock.
More detail on timing is in our guides to the best time to buy a road bike and bike sale season.
Cycle to Work can save you a large chunk on top of a sale price, because you pay through salary sacrifice before tax and National Insurance. Whether you can use it on a Black Friday deal depends on your employer’s scheme provider and on whether the retailer accepts it at sale prices.
Check both before you get your heart set on a bike, and leave time for the approval. Our Cycle to Work guide explains how it works and how the savings stack.
Winter clothing and mountain bikes are on their own Black Friday pages.
Usually, yes. Black Friday falls just after the new model year arrives, so retailers discount outgoing stock to clear it. In 2025 the Trek Domane SL 5 sold for £1,999, down from £3,000 (past price). Black Friday 2026 is Friday 27 November, and many offers run into early December.
Look for an aluminium frame, a carbon fork, Shimano Sora or Tiagra and disc brakes, with room for at least 28mm tyres. The best value changes daily with stock, so check our live under £1,000 page and the best road bike under £1,000 guide for the models worth shortlisting.
For most riders, buy the discounted 2026 bike. Model-year updates are often colours and minor spec changes, while the saving on outgoing stock can be hundreds of pounds. Wait only if a brand has announced a genuine redesign you want.
Often, if the retailer accepts your scheme provider and lets you order at the sale price. Rules vary between providers, employers and retailers, so check all three before you apply. Our Cycle to Work guide explains the process.
Use your height and inside leg as a starting point, then compare the stack and reach of the bike you are looking at with a bike that already fits you. Sizes are not consistent between brands. Our road bike frame size guide has the full method.
Yes, from an established UK retailer. Check the returns policy before you buy, especially whether a bike can go back once ridden, and allow for some setup when it arrives. If you are not confident fitting bars and pedals or adjusting brakes, budget for a quick shop check.
