Luxury cycling gifts worth the money

How to buy a big cycling present without getting it wrong

Spending more raises the stakes. A few checks make sure the big present is the right one.

Check what they already own. Garmin, Wahoo and Hammerhead users tend to stay loyal, and a second computer is rarely welcome. If they already have a good one, a smart trainer, a premium helmet or winter kit is a better choice. Our guides to the best Garmin and best Wahoo to buy explain each range.

Trainers need a compatibility check. Direct-drive smart trainers like the Tacx Neo need the right cassette and axle fit for their bike. A smart bike like the KICKR Bike Shift avoids this altogether. See our Black Friday turbo trainer deals for more.

Sized kit: know their size in that brand. Premium helmets and jackets are sized precisely. Assos, Kask and Giro sizes don’t always line up with other brands. Check a label or measure, and get a gift receipt.

Use the price history. Big-ticket cycling kit moves in price through the year. Every pick shows the lowest price we’ve tracked, so you can tell whether today’s price is a good one.

Black Friday is the sweet spot. Premium tech and trainers are often at their cheapest between Friday 27 November and Cyber Monday, 30 November, which also leaves weeks for delivery.

  3. 3

    Exact sizing

Measure for helmets and check brand charts for premium clothing. Sizes vary.

    Lowest tracked

Compare today’s price with the lowest we’ve tracked before you commit.

    Returns window

Check the retailer’s Christmas returns policy, especially for large boxed items.

Ways to pay less for a big present

Cycle to Work only works for the rider themselves: they apply through their own employer, and the saving comes out of their gross salary. It suits a big present they’re buying for themselves, or one you contribute towards.

Big gift? Use the scheme

Buy it through Cycle to Work

If they’re employed and their workplace runs the scheme, a bike or kit bundle can be paid for out of gross salary. On the basic rate, £100 of bike costs about £72 of take-home pay.

Questions we get asked

What is a good luxury gift for a cyclist?

A flagship GPS computer such as the Garmin Edge 1040 Solar or Hammerhead Karoo, a smart trainer or smart bike, a premium helmet from Kask or Giro, Oakley glasses or a top-end winter or rain jacket. Choose something that fits what they already own.

Can I buy a luxury cycling gift through Cycle to Work?

Not for someone else. Cycle to Work is a salary sacrifice scheme that the rider applies for through their own employer, and the saving comes from their gross pay. It works if they’re buying the kit themselves, or as a joint present you contribute towards.

Is a smart trainer a good Christmas present?

Yes, for riders who train through winter. Check their bike’s axle and cassette for a direct-drive trainer, or choose a smart bike that needs no bike at all. Smart trainers are often heavily discounted over Black Friday.

Should I buy a bike computer as a gift?

Only if they don’t already own one they like. Garmin, Wahoo and Hammerhead users tend to stay with their brand. If they already have one, a radar, sensors or a premium helmet is usually a better present.

When is the cheapest time to buy expensive cycling gifts?

Black Friday week. In 2026 that runs from Black Friday, Friday 27 November, to Cyber Monday, Monday 30 November. Use the lowest price we’ve tracked on each card to judge a real deal.
